Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is often called the 'silent killer' because symptoms don't appear until the kidneys have lost over 70% of their function. Therefore, early screening is one of the most vital tools to save lives and reduce the future need for dialysis.
Through the Screening & Awareness program, the National Kidney Foundation conducts free screening campaigns in rural and underserved areas of Yemen, using rapid urine and blood testing devices, and providing necessary medical consultations.
Who should be screened?
According to the American Society of Nephrology (ASN) guidelines for 2025, periodic screening is recommended for individuals with:
- Diabetes for more than 5 years.
- Chronic Hypertension.
- A family history of kidney failure.
- Obesity or heart diseases.
